Hamburg Walking Tour: The Harbour, Old Elbe Tunnel, St. Michaelis Church & Elbphilharmonie

This City Walking tour starts at the St. Pauli Landing Bridges: the largest historic landing place in the Harbour and one of Hamburg´s major tourist attractions.

After this we are going to see the Old Elbe River Tunnel. The Old Elbe Tunnel runs under the Elbe River from St. Pauli Landing Bridges to the Port of Hamburg. During the 1870s the port area on the south side of the river started to grow, and the number of workers who needed to cross the river twice a day to get to and from work increased dramatically. So the tunnel was finally completed in September 1911.

Next up is St. Michael´s Church. Today you can find here a baroque gem that is regularly listed among Germany´s most beautiful churches and one of Hamburg´s most important landmarks. The distinctive copper roof and the 132 metres tall tower with Germany´s largest clock bell are visible from afar. The observation deck offer´s a fantastic view over the city and its harbour.

After this we will follow the scent of coffee-roasters, spices and cacao down to the »Speicherstadt«, one of the largest historic warehouse districts in the world. We will also see the impressive Elbphilharmonie Music Hall.
